Latin America - the Commodity Superpower of the 21st Century?
After 2 articles in July, the Economist on August 8, 2023 followed up with a very upbeat article describing the enormous untapped resources in many Latin American countries - especially relating to a Green economy. If handled well - a big if - Latin America could become the Commodities Superpower of the century.
AI is too dangerous for loose language & metaphors
The Information Age required affordable computing platforms. Inevitably, computer terminology helped to explain the functioning of the complex human brain and now computers are being used to perform tasks that mimic Human Intelligence. The term Artificial Intelligence is somewhat misleading, and this Economist June 23, 2023 article argues for greater care in using metaphors to explain this powerful and potentially dangerous emerging technology.
Was your degree really worth it?
This April 3rd 2023 Economist article is a thought-provoking analysis of the educational "return on investment" based on the courses students choose to obtain qualifications to secure good jobs. The results show that Economics, Medicine and STEM are the areas which return a positive net return.
Saints Community College?
A no-nonsense German Chancellor (Helmut Schmidt) apparently said: "If you have Visions, you should see your Doctor!".The vision expressed in this futuristic  article addresses the evolution of Saints from a Secondary School into a STEM Community College of Excellence.
